Paragon Hotel Birmingham

I must admit some apprehension in approaching the hotel. It's very imposing but surely the rate meant it wouldn't be up to much? I needn't have worried. I really liked it. The public rooms are very impressive and my room, whilst very small (it was a single room!) was very well laid out and had everything needed. Breakfast was very good and the staff very helpful. The only problem was finding the hotel which is a bit out of the way. But now I know where it is this will not be a problem next time - 15 minute walk from New Street Station. At the rate paid it was great value for money.

They're making a big effort to upgrade - worth taking a double room even if you're alone - much more space for a small extra charge.

We booked for a twin room and a child expecting twin beds and some sort of bed for the child. Unfortunately we only had twin beds, not the most comfortable arrangement.

The building itself is imposing; the staff very friendly and helpful. The location however is a little way out of town, in an area which appears full of small, old, rather run-down businesses. It was not an area I would have wanted to walk in, especially at night, and therefore it necessitated taking taxis to and from the city after dark. It was reasonably priced, and I would consider staying there again.S

This rooms in this hotel are being refurbished. My room was of the old type and a single, but was clean and comfortable. The shower room was a bit small, with a curtain rather than a cubicle, but worked. It needed decoration, but I am sure that will happen. The public areas were very good, if a little dark for my tastes. The restaurant was a very pleasant surprise - very good quality at excellent value for money for dinner, and a good spread for breakfast. All in all very good value for money.

The Paragon is undergoing a major refurbishment, which in my opinion is fully justified! The entrance area is quite impressive - I gather this is a listed building. but then as you go upstairs (I was on the 5th floor) the halls are narrow, dingy and have heavy fire doors to open. My single room was TINY - about 9 feet wide by 7 feet deep with a tiny shower + WC ensuite. The room was reasonably clean but the bathroom smelled of urine and the shower cubicle had black mould growing along the grouting. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the breakfast and dinner I would describe as adequate rather than good.

The bar area was incredibly hot and is very much in need of some air conditioning. Much custom was lost as a result and we only occupied it when other options for the party to drink elsewhere were exhausted.

A very old hotel a few minutes outside the city centre, I hope that when they spend millions on renovating, It does not lose it's comfort, style or Staff's friendliness. Excellent value for money.

Facilities a bit outlived but OK, room (single larger room) OK & clean, had major trouble with the 5 swinging doors on the corridor on the way to my room when moving my (heavy) luggage in and out of the hotel (no porter service available). Breakfast was standard/OK, dinner made me remember "Faulty Towers". Hotel staff very friendly and professional, sent me a package left behind at hotel by taxi. Overall recommendable.

The hotel room was basic & compact but for the price of under £50 you cant expect much more. We thought it was reasonable.

I found the size of the room rather small; further hardly any soap (one very small bar for three days and no shampoo). As far as breakfast is concerned: only cereals and baked English breakfast. Hardly any variety and very "uncontinental". The food was otherwise good, and the people who work in the hotel quite friendly.

Located 15 mins from edge of Birmingham centre, in an industrial area that might please some, this is a very good value budget hotel, with adequate facilities, and a very good price. Will stay again.

If you want a basic en-suite room with a great breakfast for a couple of nights this is a pretty good choice. I would stay here again.

This hotel is ideally situated for shopping at the Bullring, it is within walking distance of the hotel. The breakfast is brilliant eat as much as you like buffet.

A basic hotel that has reasonable rooms, nothing elaborate. The room was a bit dated but the price was reasonable. I know Birmingham well having lived in the region for most of my life, so know the location for this hotel. It is quite a way from Birmingham City Centre, and a bus or taxi is essential for a night out. The restaurant was pleasant and the food/service was good and reasonable priced. Altogether a good value hotel for a short break.

Location
Ideally located in the centre of Birmingham, the Paragon Hotel is close to the convention centre and provides easy access to major parts of the city.
