The Talbot 15th Century Coaching Inn

We had a great stay, the room we had was small but OK for a couple of nights. The food was excellent and the bar very friendly. Mells ia a nice place to have a look around and we found the trip into Bath no problem but we were out of season.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Rob, the manager, went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. The locals were friendly - we spent the evening playing cards with them. The food was excellent. The village is set in the beautiful Mendips area and has a unique character.

The food at the hotel was of the highest standard and deserved the awards given for it. It may be a way from Bath but was well worth the drive to get there. We would definitely stay there again.

The staff were terrific, nothing was too much trouble and very friendly.The bar which is across the delightful cobbled court yard is a good place to start the evening, the staff will bring over the menus so you can choose before you go to the restaurant; they then come over for your order and then back again to let you know your table is ready. The food was extremely good, and huge portions. The whole place was so pretty and quaint, the second night we had a table in the smaller room with a burning log fire next to us--delighful. I would definitely recommend this place and will go back again.

This is a traditional English inn. It is a lovely place located in southwestern part of the country. It is located in a small quiet village 20 miles from Bath, sometimes difficult to find as it is not on a main road. The staff is friendly, restaurant is quite good. It met and even exceeded our expectations. I would strongly recommend it for anyone willing to explore the English countryside.

Location
Located on the edge of Mendip Hills, The Talbot 15th Century Coaching Inn Bath lies in the beautiful medieval village of Mells. The Talbot Inn is close to many beautiful places of historical, architectural and cultural interest.

Rooms
The Inn offers comfortable en-suite bedrooms, which have a distinct country atmosphere and are traditionally furnished to retain their original charm. Each room has its own character with one bedroom named after Jack Horner from the Early English nursery rhyme.

Food & Drink
The in house restaurant serves a wide variety of wonderful a la Carte menu. Across the courtyard, the old Tythe barn has been tastefully restored to its former glory and now houses the inn's public bar serving an excellent selection of classic and new world wines.

General
Privately owned 15th Century Coaching Inn with its hanging baskets and tubs is reached through large double doors under an archway and into an informally planted, cobbled courtyard where there are Provençal style French chairs around tables and a beautiful Polygonum, vine covered pergola.

Functions
Well-equipped banquet and conference rooms are also available onsite.

From Bath
Take the A36 towards Warminster. Turn right on the A361 into Frome and then take the A362 towards Radstock. Within half a mile go left (signposted Mells) and with two right hand turns travel two and a half miles into Mells.

From Shepton Mallett
Take the A361 towards Frome and after approximately eight miles go left signposted Mells.

From Restock
Take the A362 towards Frome and turn right signposted Mells/Kilmersdon.
